Providing a safe and nurturing space wherein students discover new concepts and content.

South African National Curriculum (CAPS)

We provide the ideal environment for children to explore new skills and experience new activities.

Our young students begin to learn through play, exploration, and lessons that are both stimulating and fun. We encourage invention and creativity as our students adapt their knowledge to new findings and source out practical connections between their learning and everyday life.

About our Curriculum

In Lower School we nurture independent learning skills, developing student responsibility.

Our world-class curriculum is built on the principles of the Responsive Classroom. It creates a safe, joyful and challenging learning environment for every child and is known for its teacher effectiveness and higher student achievement. We provide a strong academic foundation, and encourage students to be creative, think critically, communicate and collaborate.

Our Objective

We nurture independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.

Through our inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, we challenge students to think for themselves and exercise agency to explore who we are, how we express ourselves, where we are in space and time, how the world works, how we organise ourselves, and sharing the planet. We focus on purposeful play, active learning, creativity, and critical thinking. We encourage children to actively explore the world, developing individual and shared inquiries. Our goal is to create a dynamic and joyful community of young learners who have the strong educational foundations.

Grade 2

Grade 2 is when we work with pupils to build on previously learned skills, creating opportunities for the children to become increasingly independent and confident learners. The curriculum builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in Grade 1, and adds further challenges as the children move through the grades. Further emphasis is placed on problem solving and creative thinking in order that students become more independent in their learning. Children can access a variety of learning styles working independently, in small groups or in larger collaborations. They access specialised teachers and purpose-built learning spaces. Teachers monitor the well-being and progress of each child – we want them to feel happy and challenged.

Grade 3

The learning process in the Middle School focuses on individualized student needs and extends academic expectations. Students are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning as they mature and they will be expected to work with increasing independence.

Students are taught predominantly by their class teacher with differentiated teaching to ensure the right levels of stretch or support (with Learning Support team involved if required). At this age a greater level of independence is encouraged but home/school partnership is still key and reading is heard twice a week by teachers.
